The Weekly Fly

James Warren has been tying commercially since he was 12 years old. He has guided for 9 years and fished all over the world. Recipe:

  • Hook: Any streamer hook. Stainless steel for saltwater.
  • Thread: Fine mono
  • Eyes: Lead or dumbbell eyes to match fishing conditions and water depth. Use zap-a-gap to secure to hook prior to tying
  • Body: White and pink Ice Fur or similar synthetic. Bucktail also works very well and was the original material.

Gary Jones retired from advertising several years ago and now spends his days tying flies, fishing blue ribbon trout streams and working at Greater Yellowstone Fly Fishers just outside of Bozeman, MT. In this pattern, he shows the very interesting yet simple technique for tying a woven stonefly pattern.

Doug puts the weight on in this heave multi purpose fly.

Livingston tier and guide Doug McKnight hails originally from Pensylvania, but now lives in Livingston, MT. He is currently a fly designer for Umpqua Feather Merchants and also creates beautiful display flies in custom shadow boxes.

RECIPE:

  • Hook: 4x-6x long Streamer hook
  • Thread: UTC 140
  • Eyes: Lead Dumbbell eyes
  • Tail: Brown and Burnt Umber Marabou
  • Legs: Tan speckled rubber legs
  • Body: Woodchuck Hair spun into a loop of Med. gauge wire

Dave Bloom ties his favorite streamer pattern. He named it after Jim Morrison due to its psychodelic color scheme.

Dave Bloom has been an outfitter and guide in Montana and Idaho over 20 yrs as well as a dedicated steelheader in the Northwest. In addition he has guided in Chile and worked for Montana Fly Company in central America. He also has several of his patterns liscensed by Idlywild Flies out of Portland.
He is currently residing and outfitting in Craig, MT on the Missouri River.

  • Thread: Red A Cord
  • Eyes: Metal or Lead
  • Tail: Black marabou with red and blue KF
  • Body: Jim Morrison's chenille palmered with black hackle
